Objective: To analyze positive surgical margins (PSM) after radical prostatectomy (RP) in the overall population and in patients previously treated with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Materials and Methods: 2,408 patients treated with RP for clinically localized prostate cancer (PCa) were consecutively enrolled in 135 departments. Breast conserving therapy is the primary treatment modality in early-stage breast cancer patients. Despite the development of methods for the intraoperative assessment of tumor margins, 20–30% of patients still require re-resection due to postoperative tumor infiltration at the surgery margins. In recent years, many methods have been developed to reduce the number of re-resections due to margin infiltration. BACKGROUND Most molecular techniques currently require fresh frozen tumor tissue, which in the case of prostatectomy specimen is a challenge to obtain for a variety of intrinsic reasons. Prostate cancers are usually located in the organ periphery and hence meticulous attention has to be paid to the relation between the tumor and the surgical margin.
